Dressage Talks - An Educational Event at UA's AMEC Schedule 1:30-2:30 Ann Baldwin - Heart Connection between Humans and Horses 2:30-2:45 Q and A with Ann 2:45-3:00 break 3:00-4:00 Elissa Hambright - Equine Massage & Essential Oils 4:00 Walking Tour Speaker Bios Ann Baldwin, PhD Ann Linda Baldwin, PhD, is director of Mind-Body-Science and recently retired as professor of physiology at the University of Arizona. She is a HeartMath certified trainer, a Reiki Master and a certified trauma release exercise (TRE) provider. With these tools, Ann helps people reverse the damaging effects of stress on mind and body. In addition, she has ridden and owned horses over the last several decades, volunteers for Therapeutic Riding of Tucson as a horse handler, and enjoys working with clients with her horse Major in equine assisted learning. She has published over 130 research papers and two books, “Reiki in Clinical Practice. A Science Based Guide” and “The Vagus Nerve in Therapeutic Practice. Working with Clients to Manage Stress and Enhance Mind-Body Function”. Ann has received 30 years of funding from federal institutions and has served on review panels for National Institutes of Health. For the last decade her research has focused on the science behind horse-human interactions. Elissa Hambright Based in sunny Tucson, AZ, I'm not just your average massage therapist for horses and dogs; I'm their wellness advocate! My journey is all about embracing the power of essential oils and crafting a toxin-free haven for our furry friends. But that's not all! I'm on a mission to empower fellow dog and horse moms to join me on this holistic adventure. Together, we'll explore the world of essential oils, wellness routines, and building online businesses. When I'm not busy spreading love to our four-legged companions, you'll find me in the saddle, mastering the art of dressage and working equitation. And let's not forget my years of experience in combined driving and as a certified veterinary technician! Join me on this incredible journey towards wellness, empowerment, and a toxin-free lifestyle. Dressage Talks with our Local Veterinarians - An Educational Event at UA's AMEC Schedule 1:00-2:00 Dr. Chauncey Smith - Equine Sports Medicine Alternative Treatment Modalities 2:00-3:00 Dr. Autum Busarow-Kosco - Acupuncture 3:00-4:00 Dr. Ashley Edge - Chiropractor Speaker Bios Chauncey Smith, DVM: Dr. Chauncey of The Equine Veterinary Clinic of Tucson is a general practitioner that practices mainly sports medicine and emergency work. Dr. Chauncey is a native of Tucson who received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona. During his youth he was an avid equestrian in the area that received national accolades in the hunter jumper circuit. Dr. Chauncey completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree at The Ohio State University where he worked multiple years in the equine ICU. After graduation he began working as a general practitioner at Cleveland Equine Clinic in Northeast Ohio where he received guidance from some of the leaders in the sport horse industry. Dr. Chauncey is very excited to continue his career as an equine veterinarian in Tucson servicing the animals that have given him so much. Dr. Autum Busarow-Kosco, DVM, cVMA: Dr. Autum Busarow-Kosco is a native of Tucson and completed her undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science at the University of Arizona. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts for her pre-clinical training and then completed her clinical training at the University of Florida School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, she completed an internship at Southwest Equine Hospital in Scottsdale, AZ, and has continued to serve there as an associate veterinarian specializing in equine medicine. Dr. Kosco enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine including internal medicine, animal welfare, anesthesia / pain management, nutrition, and preventive care. She has extensive training in acupuncture for large and small animals from the Chi Institute in Florida and enjoys customizing conventional and integrative wellness programs for each of her patients to promote healthy and balanced animals. Dr. Kosco has spent most of her life around horses and couldn’t imagine any other profession than to be working with them as a veterinarian. She also has a passion for traveling and has been on multiple overseas trips to provide teaching and veterinary care to animals around the world. She is always looking for the next adventure to pursue. Dr. Ashley Edge, DVM: Dr. Edge grew up in an Air Force family and so was blessed to move all over the USA. She loved horses from an early age and joined 4-H and rode and showed through them, as well as with the AQHA. She ended up owning a quarter horse mare that was an integral part of Dr. Edge’s life and taught her that she wanted to become a veterinarian. Dr. Edge continued her life of travel after she left home. She did her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University and completed her veterinary degree at St. George’s University on the island of Grenada in the West Indies. Dr. Edge did an internship after graduation at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky and then took her first associate job in Denver, Colorado. During this time, she became certified in Animal Chiropractic care at Options for Animals College of Animal Chiropractic. While practicing in Denver, she met her husband, Dan, and his career moved them to Virginia, and finally back West to Tucson. Professionally, Dr. Edge particularly enjoys ophthalmology, equine lameness, chiropractic care, and imaging. Dr. Edge also has a special interest in client and community education for the care of all animals. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Edge enjoys hiking, camping, and horseback riding. She also loves spending time with her family, including her two cats Julep and Yeti (Yeti has extra toes and therefore big feet, hence the name!). The TDC education committee has put together another great opportunity for members and guests to chat with saddle fitter, BJ Stinson on Saturday, October 19th from 9am to 11am.
Speaker's Bio- Get to Know Billie-Jo (BJ) Stinson
My name is BJ Stinson, the proud owner of Topline Saddle Fitting America and in partnership with my husband, Ron, of Topline Saddle Sales & Repairs.
Originally from Australia, I have been saddle fitting since approximately 2012. I moved to America in 2017 where I service all of Arizona and some other states on request. I am accredited by the NSW Agricultural College as well as holding many other brand accreditations in all saddle styles which allows me to share my knowledge and passion for the industry as well as help others ensure the very best comfort and care for their horses, mules and donkeys.
In addition to saddle fitting, we offer quality repairs including reflocking, panel correction, billets and others. All of our repairs are done using the highest quality materials, combined with our attention to detail and correct methods.
You can count on us to protect and ensure the comfort and longevity of your most important riding equipment. We look forward to helping you soon!

October 27, 2024 Here is your opportunity to learn how to be a scribe at a show! Join TDC for an afternoon of education!Starting at 1:00 PM at University of Arizona's Al-Marah Equine Center 4101 N Bear Canyon Road The TDC show committee has put together a scribing clinic for Sunday, October 27th from 1 pm until 4 pm. Ellie Stine Masek, ‘S’ judge, will be the instructor. As a judge, she will be able to offer expert advice and experienced tips. The scribing clinic will be at the classroom at Al Marah Equine Center, 4101 N Bear Canyon Rd. Limited to 20 participants. Please let Kathleen Gale know if you are able to attend so that the necessary tests and documents can be prepared. The gate will be open at 12:30 to allow access. Light refreshments will be provided.
