Refine Your Ride Clinic with Dr. Joanna Frantz: Physical Therapy and Performance Enhancement for the Equestrian Athlete

Bio: Dr. Frantz is a contracted Doctor of Physical Therapy for USEF and the USA Para-Dressage Team. She has traveled to the Paralympics for both the 2021 Games in Tokyo and 2024 Games in Paris. She is a certified High Performance Human Science and Sports Medicine Practitioner. Joanna grew up in Connecticut competing in Children Pony Hunters and continues to ride and show locally. Being both a rider and a sports performance physio, Joanna combines her passions to develop these clinics to help riders improve their symmetry and riding performance.

About Refine Your Ride Clinic: This assessment, centered on you, aims to identify your riding weaknesses and imbalances. Why should we do this? Consider your performance. Do you collapse on one side, feel better on one rein compared to the other, fix with one arm, prefer to turn to one side, always run out to the same side, have back, hip or other joint pain? If any of these apply to you, then a personal plan will help you correct your rider muscle imbalances.

The clinic will be fun, informative, and help you learn about yourself. I like the rider to be mounted with the horse warmed up so that we can start the assessment at the top of the hour. Remember, this is not a lesson, this is about rider balance and symmetry. It is best if we don't spend too much time getting warmed up. Day 1 starts with about a 20 min assessment on the horse, then an assessment and treatment off the horse, including a plan for day 2. Day 2 we start unmounted reviewing the assessment, updating the plan, and manual treatment. Then, if time allows, mount and ride to assess your new position on the horse. Each rider will receive before and after pictures and videos, and home exercises. Due to the personal nature of the sessions, outside auditors are not permitted.
